I am far from being a happy camper at this site where little building seems to be taking place in terms of communication, quite apart from building progresses within the software itself. To say that NAB would be "only" four months of further delay is really quite a poor choice of words. As somebody who convinced my institution to take 10 subscriptions, I am not happy at all at this delay. Nothing is public about this delay and I also agree with Mike but in the sense that other vendors were more prepared for Mavericks and the MacPro if that is the reason for the delay. In exchange for this previous delay there was the famous public beta. That would really be quite far outside the normal release cycle and really well over a year since the final release of 2013 that itself was delayed and at that point readily accepted as a delay due to the significant change within the software's architecture. With that said AD has re-affirmed their commitment to Smoke on Mac on this very forum, so its safe to say its only a matter of time before the next release, with zero insider knowledge (I'm no longer on the beta) I'd be guessing at an NAB release. Its annoying to have to stay on an older version of Avid or Resolve simply because Smoke hasn't been updated. However in this multi-application world we DO need current OS compatability more than ever from AD as we now run a lot of other software on the same boxes and new versions of other software demand the latest version. Since Snow Leopard on there has been no compelling feature for me to upgrade. My basic stance as always is that the oldest piece of software in any computer should be the OS, that way you get the least compatability issues. I kept my OSX comp machines at 10.8.5 and am about to move most of my comp pipeline over to Centos as I'm somewhat disillusioned with Apple post Mavericks performance wise and their lack of standards compatability due to their dumb refusal to accept GPL-3.

However other than the new mac pro coming with it preloaded why would anyone want Mavericks? Its a total pig memory wise and sudo purge quickly becomes your friend on 4K comps. Premiere CC (no acceleration yet for ray tracing)

There was no surprise delay on either, the schedules were well published and whilst we all understand the scramble that Apple's dumb move to ATI graphics has caused ALL video folk, the fact simply remains that the AD ship is simply slower to respond.
